In Bloom | Bearded Iris

Iris sp.

Botanical watercolour study of a pale purple bearded iris with flowers at different stages of opening.

Irises are one of my favourite garden plants. I love how the tightly folded buds gradually unfurl into these wonderfully complex flowers, revealing folds, markings, and flashes of colour that were almost completely hidden before.

This study follows a pale purple bearded iris at different stages of flowering, from the fading remains of an earlier bloom to a newly opened flower above.
