Erica tetralix
Cross-leaved Heath can easily be mistaken for the other heathers growing across Scotland’s hills, but up close its differences become clear. Its larger, soft pink bell-shaped flowers distinguish it from the smaller, deeper-coloured flowers of Bell Heather, while its leaves are arranged in distinctive whorls of four around the stem, giving the plant its common name.
This painting was created as part of my final-year project for the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Diploma in Botanical Illustration.
